Open-field experiments allow the evaluation of animal’s basal activity and its evolution, in response to novelty or anxiogenic environment, and in response to pharmacological treatment, lesion, or genetic modification.

Panlab proposes square open-fields available for rats and mice. The arena is made of durable material which has the advantage to be non-absorbent to the odors and easy to clean. The arena is surrounded by high walls and is available in different nonreflective colors for video-tracking purposes. The system is entirely demountable for enabling storage in the minimum space. The floor can be divided into equal squares under request for the direct counting of animal activity.

The Panlab open-field can be combined with the SMART video-tracking system for the automated evaluation of a wide variety of behaviors (activity, exploration, anxiety, etc…)

The New Ugo Basile Gas Anesthesia machine is a compact, modular and reasonably-priced system, intended to match the highest technical requirements of animal labs that do not compromise on quality.

Typical gas anesthesia procedures involve an induction phase and a maintenance phase, which require at least:

Harvard Apparatus has developed an extensive range of off the shelf anaesthesia trolley systems, suitable for a wide range of applications. The Dynamic Plantar Anesthesiometer consists of a movable force-actuator below a network platform upon which the operator deposits the rodent. A Perspex enclosure renders the animal unrestrained for the duration of the experiment.

The operator places the actuator beneath the paw (proper placement ensured via an angled mirror) and the actuator confers a use-defined force on a Von Frey-type filament. The filament exerts an increasing force to the plantar surface, starting below the threshold of detection and increasing until the animal removes its paw. At the retraction reflex movement when the paw is withdrawn, the registers and displays the actual force at which paw withdrawal occurred.

Our anesthetic bracket systems are easy! Select your base unit, flowmeters, vaporizer type, and source of gas supply and select the corresponding part numbers, your bracket will then be completely assembled to your specification and supplied complete.

Select your vaporizer of choice from the table below, all vaporizers are new and come with a 3-year warranty and service interval. Each vaporizer is calibrated specifically to the specified anesthetic drug. Please note if ordering the Selectatec vaporizer you will additionally need to order the compatibility block.

The blanket is supplied with a 2 m (6 ft) cable attached to a plug for connection to the control unit. This system enables the researcher to maintain an animal’s temperature within the preset range of 20° to 50°C (68° to 122°F). Each system is supplied complete with the control unit, temperature probe, blanket, and plastic cover for a blanket.

Fluovac Anesthetizing Chamber with Gas Scavenging System

Further enhance the flexibility of your Fluovac system by the addition of a special anesthetizing chamber. No modifications to the existing Fluovac unit are necessary.

The system provides a safe working environment for staff while minimizing stress to the animal.

The Harvard Apparatus Fluovac system, incorporating the Fluosorber canister (not included), combines small animal anaesthesia with operator safety. The Fluovac provides a sensible answer to waste anaesthetic gasses in the operating room. This system was specifically designed to deliver anaesthetic gasses through a central mask and simultaneously remove gasses by suction from the outer mask. The fluovac is a quiet must for all veterinary operating theatres. Economy easily adaptable, to all anaesthetic machines. Each Fluovac system includes a size 1 mask suitable for anaesthetising small rodents. and psychomotor changes have all anaesthetic vapour before it is giving it a much longer time span between changes scavenging products available. Connected by 22mm tubing

The Fluosorber consists of a canister containing activated carbon; this unit sits on top of the fluovac and adsorbs anaesthetic gas extremely efficiently, protecting you and your staff from dangerous waste gasses. Genetic mutations, cancer, complications during pregnancy, hepatic and renal disease, immunological effects and psychomotor changes have all been linked with exposure to trace anaesthetic gasses. Because most halogenated anaesthetic gasses can’t be detected unless in high concentrations, proper scavenging is essential.

These chambers have a 6mm wall thickness and can be ordered in either white or clear Perspex. The lid is 10mm thick clear Perspex and has a foam sealing strip.
Inside, the chamber has a false perforated aluminium floor resting on nylon supports. Brass straight fittings are supplied as standard. The inlet is below the grill floor and outlet at top of the opposite end.
Three different sized chambers area is available.
Product BS4 34-0452 Quick Release Inlet (male fitting) is available separately. This fitting is for use with coiled pneumatic fitting systems.

Available as chamber only or as full gas scavenging systems including all necessary tubing, connectors, and valves. The Complete fluovac anaesthetising chamber utilises two directavalves one is placed on the outlet tube mount of the vaporiser so that anaesthetic gas can be direct other is placed on the fluovac so that gas can be scavenged from mask or induction box and other is placed on the fluovac so that gas can be scavenged from mask or chamber as required.

Harvard Apparatus is pleased to introduce the new Fluovac Mouse Mask, a single arm coaxial mask for the delivery and scavenging of anesthetic gases utilizing the Fluovac System.

A most useful addition to our gas scavenging range, the valve redirects gas from the FLUOVAC mask when out of use for short periods. The advantage is that neither the Vaporizer setting nor the flowmeter setting have to be altered when an animal is removed from the mask thus saving time having to reset the previous settings. Also, if the gas flow has inadvertently been set a little high then it could overcome the scavenging action at the mask when an animal is removed – the use of the valve prevents contamination of the area by stopping the gas reaching the mask.

These anesthetizing boxes are constructed of 6 mm (1/4 in) thick, transparent plastic, with all joints securely cemented. The transparent plastic allows the animal to be under constant observation. Two clear 9.5 mm (3/8 in) plastic tubing connectors, 25 mm (1 in) long, are cemented on opposite ends of the box, one at the top and the other at the bottom, for introducing the gas.

These boxes are available in two sizes: small and large. The small box is for rodents. The top slides open lengthwise on machined grooves. The large box is for larger animals such as rabbits and cats. Its top has three hinges for easy opening. Two fasteners squeeze the top down against a rubber gasket to seal the joints.

These Universal Rodent Restrainers have a unique raised inner floor which provides a better fit for smaller rodents and which may be removed for larger rodents.

Hose to pin index for Oxygen

Harvard Apparatus has developed a simple device, used to convert any anaesthetic trolley or bracket system with pin index regulator, to be able to receive gas supply from a wall-mounted piped gas supply. Simply connect one end to your wall mounted supply, and then insert the specially designed pin index block into the pin index socket on your regulator. The length of high-pressure hose supplied is 2m (please ask for the part numbers for alternative lengths of hose and gasses.)

This cylindrical acrylate chamber is ideal for anesthetizing small animals such as rodents, guinea pigs, and birds. It has two, 1/4 inch barbed hose fittings. One for gas delivery and one for gas scavenging. The gas delivery barb directs the flow of anesthetic gas towards the bottom of the chamber. The chamber has a routed top that ensures a perfect fit. There are no corners so cleaning is easy. Includes 10 ft. of 0.25″ ID tubing.

These masks provide a convenient way of providing artificial ventilation or administration of anesthetic gases to dogs. They are constructed of rugged transparent polycorbonate.
