Isolated Organ Bath

The Isolated Organ Baths have been designed for accurate recording of isometric or isotonic tissue contraction/release. Available as 1, 2, 4-channel turn-key systems (4000, 4050, 4400), used in classic pharmacology research and teaching worldwide since the 1960s!

Research involving the effects of electrical stimuli or drugs on isolated smooth muscles, uterus, trachea, vessel strips, auricle, etc. can be performed under optimum conditions.

Wash or test solution enters the chamber after passing through the temperature equilibrating coils and the syringe valve. The tissue in the chamber is washed by flushing the chamber through an overflow drain tube, to avoid exposing the tissue to the air. Water stirring is accomplished by a water jet delivered by a centrifugal pump.

Slice Anchors for Series 20 and 40 Chambers

Slice anchors are available for all open bath chambers in the 20 and 40 Series family. Anchors are constructed for an easy push-in fit into the chamber bath area, allowing the user to control the cord line pressure applied to slice. Most anchors are made from type 316 stainless steel and Lycra® and finished with a plastic coating. Additionally, plastic anchors are available for the RC-27L Chamber.

The platform functions as a base for the chamber and provides clamping to make a seal between the chamber and coverslip. They are machined from aluminum and finished with a black anodize. With the exception of the model P-2 and PH-2 platforms, Series 20 platforms feature sliding hold down clamps which permit rapid replacement of the chamber. The model P-2 and PH-2 platforms use a one-piece clamp as shown above. Sliding clamps used on most models permit easy removal of the chamber to change the coverslip. Model P-2, see to left, uses a one-piece clamp secured with 4 screws. Heater platforms are powered from a single channel of a Warner heater controller, see page M126. Connection to the controller is made with the CC-28 cable assembly.

These chambers accommodate larger slices and preparations and permit excellent access for electrodes. The larger baths also allow for insertion of a round coverslip from the top; a 12 mm in RC-26 and a 15 mm in RC-26G. Optional slice hold down anchors is offered for both models. The anchors are stainless steel frames with lycra threads at 2 mm spacing and weigh approximately 500 milligrams. Both models use a 22 x 40 mm coverslip on the bottom.
