PTFE pestle has 0.15 – 0.25 mm clearance with borosilicate mortar. Pestle shaft 6.5 mm. Volumes stated are working volumes. ldeal for small amounts of tissue. Serrated pestle should be used on tough materials such as tumours. Avoid excessive generated heat as could cause binding. Mortars

For preparation of soft tissue homogenates, such as liver or brain. Grinders are available with smooth pestles or serrated pestles, which disperse homogenate into the mortar cylinder more effectively. Depth of radial serrations is 0.508–0.635mm (0.020–0.025″).

All pestles are made of fluoropolymer resin with a 6.4mm (1/4″) diameter stainless steel shaft. Smooth or serrated pestles are available. Radius at pestle bottom conforms to radius in bottom of grinding chamber. Grinding chamber is made of low extractable borosilicate glass. Chamber clearance is 0.102–0.152mm (0.004–0.006″). Autoclavable. Parts are interchangeable.

Designed for fine particle size reduction without damage to cell nuclei. For small cells such as E. coli, proteins, serum, and malignant tissues.

Made of low extractable borosilicate glass. Supplied with 2 pestles. The large clearance pestle is used for initial sample reduction; the narrow clearance pestle forms the final homogenate. Mortar has large reservoir and pouring lip.

For homogenizing delicate tissues such as intestines, liver, and heart. Designed for hand operation, grinders can also be slow-speed motor driven by inserting a rubber stopper (size 00) and metal rod into the pestle. Hollow handle permits packing with ice. Grinders also feature an expanded reservoir and pouring lip.

Interchangeable pestles and tubes are made of Wheaton 33® low extractable borosilicate glass. Clearance between pestle and grinding chamber is 0.09–0.16mm (0.0035–0.0065″). Glass meets ASTM Type 1 Class A and USP Type 1 standards.
